This hand-carved dragonfly ornament blends nature-inspired form with the timeless beauty of traditional quilt patterns. Carved from a reclaimed scrap piece of white pine, the dragonfly measures approximately 4.5 inches wide by 3.25 inches long and is fully finished on both sides, making it a true all-around piece.
Each wing features a heart-inspired quilt pattern, carefully carved in relief and hand painted in rich jewel tones of purple, gold, pink, and cream. The two sides are intentionally different—offering a unique variation of the heart quilt design on each side—so the ornament reveals new details as it turns. Subtle shimmer highlights the quilt blocks and wing contours.
This ornament can be displayed on a holiday tree, a seasonal branch, a window hook, or as a year-round decorative accent.
As with all my work, this piece is entirely hand carved and hand painted, using no power carving tools. Each ornament is one of a kind and signed, celebrating craftsmanship, reuse of materials, and the quiet beauty of handmade art.
