This hand-carved butterfly shelf sitter is a celebration of color, pattern, and traditional craftsmanship. Carved entirely by hand from white pine, the butterfly is mounted on pine base, creating a balanced, freestanding piece designed for shelf, mantel, or tabletop display.
The butterfly measures approximately 6 inches wide, 4 inches deep, and 4.75 inches tall. Its wings are carved in relief with a quilt-inspired pattern, carefully laid out to mirror the symmetry of traditional quilt blocks. Hand-painted in layered jewel tones of pink, teal, gold, and black, the design is accented with subtle shimmer that highlights the carving details without overwhelming the natural warmth of the wood.
As with all my work, this piece is entirely hand carved and hand painted, using no power carving tools. The wood grain, carving marks, and small variations are embraced as part of the character of a truly handmade object. This shelf sitter is one of a kind and signed, with no duplicates made.
