Quilting in wood

Carved By Hand and inspired by Tradition.

Every carving begins with a solid block of basswood or pine and is shaped entirely by hand using only traditional knives and gouges—just as generations of woodcarvers have done before me. Each piece is one-of-a-kind, signed, and created with heart in my studio in the Adirondack Mountains of northern New York. From quilted Santas to woodland shelf sitters, my work is inspired by the traditional arts of quilting, woodcarving, hand craftsmanship, and the quiet joy of simple, lasting beauty.

About

The Artist

I was always a maker. As a child I learned to knit, crochet, needlepoint, embroider, and so many other things that my grandmother shared. But I always wanted to try woodcarving.

As an adult and with the help of a family friend who was a professionally recognized wildlife carver, I bought a carving book, 1 block of wood, 1 knife, 1 gouge…..and I was hooked.

Completely self-taught, yet always learning and finding new carvings to create. Carving one of a kind pieces with only hand tools is what I love. Quilting in wood has become my focus as it was the one handcraft my grandmother and I didn’t get to before she left us. So in a way, I am doing it for both of us.

Thank you for looking.
